Meet My Tran, one of our amazing event coordinators who’s an intrinsic part of our client management team. My is one of our newer team members and looks after our exhibition and conference clients, ensuring their experience with us, from enquiry to delivery, is as seamless as possible.
When she’s not at work, My can often be found at the gym where she’s training to be a competitive weightlifter, indulging her inner foodie by sampling all of Sydney’s culinary delights and really living life on the edge by learning to drive on Sydney’s roads!
My’s always been interested in events, evidenced by her choice of tertiary degree - a Bachelor’s Marketing & Event Management, but she really caught the events bug while volunteering at various University events. From there, My worked in catering and corporate functions before looking for a change. When asked what it was like changing industries and working at CEG here’s what My had to say.
“I remember saying in my interview that while I didn’t have any experience in AV, I had always been interested in event technology and loved to learn new things. Like with any new job, I was nervous at first, but the CEG team helped me to believe in my abilities. From the beginning, they’ve fostered my curiosity and encouraged me to never be afraid to ask questions, so that I can keep building on my technical knowledge. Since working here, my skills have improved so much; from a shy girl who was anxious when speaking to clients, to a confident event coordinator who is always ready to go above and beyond to find solutions for my clients’ requests.
One of the best things about working in events is that no two days are the same; every day I have the opportunity to see or experience something new. I love being part of the process of creating events and exhibitions; seeing an event come to life from a concept and quote is very invigorating. There have been days when the whole crew comes onsite from 6am and finishes at 9pm but everyone still has a smile on their face because deep down, we know we are contributing to something bigger.
Within my first 2 months at CEG, I was on-site at my first big client event. At first - as to be expected! - I was seriously nervous, but the rest of the crew were so reassuring and reiterated that it would be a big learning curve for me. It made me realise how important it is to work in an environment where everyone looks after one another and encourages the newbies to share ideas and be creative. CEG is one of those places”.
My’s advice for someone wanting to join the industry? “Don’t be scared to start something new. You never know how exciting a pathway is until you step into it”.
