AVALON AIRSHOW 2023

The Challenge

Avalon Airshow is an event the CEG team always looks forward to. So after the COVID-induced cancellation of the 2021 Airshow, we were thrilled to be back onsite at Avalon Airport, near Geelong, VIC in late February 2023.

The Australian International Airshow, known to most as the Avalon Airshow, is a large 6 day, open-air show held biennially at Avalon Airport, in Victoria. The event has a strong focus on military aviation, featuring aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force, United States Navy and the United States Air Force. And Avalon Airshow 2023 really resonated with visitors - it broke all previous attendance records, with a 24% increase in visitor numbers.

The Solution

When it comes to an event of this scale, and one that’s located at a significant distance from our warehouse, logistics are a significant factor. To counter this, our team works closely with the client to ensure we are fully briefed on their AV requirements, all equipment is checked and stress-tested, spares are prepped as back-ups, client content is reviewed and tested and in general all possible scenarios are accounted for, so we can troubleshoot and problem solve onsite in Geelong.

An Airshow 2023 highlight for the team was the installation of a 4m x 5m curved 3D LED wall for Lockheed Martin, containing 300 magnetically attached LED panels. While we’ve been building LED walls of all shapes and sizes for a number of years, Lockheed Martin’s LED posed a greater challenge than most due to its curved form, designed to give the content a 3D effect. This LED wall took more than 25 hours to build and was tested vigorously to ensure that the content would run seamlessly for the duration of the show.

Seemingly, curved LED was in demand at Avalon 2023 - the Boeing stand also had a 2.5m x 8.5m curved LED wall designed to create an enhanced feeling of depth where attendees can feel like they are stepping into the display. The client’s vision for this LED wall was to split content and showcase presentations and demonstrations simultaneously.

Due to the size of Avalon 2023, it’s a multi-day bump in, and during our allocated five installation days, our team installed approximately 110 screens of various sizes and 5 LED walls across multiple exhibitor stands.

Throughout Airshow’s 6 show days, we had technicians onsite every event day to ensure our equipment & our clients' content was running smoothly, and that any technical issues could be solved immediately.

The Results

Avalon Airshow 2023 was such a success for the CEG team that well we’re already looking forward to AVALON 2025! We hope to see you there.
